Two homeless women loitering inside the Bank of America ATM at 1 South Pleasant St. at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday were sent on their way. They told police they were looking for a new place to stay after feeling unwelcome at the town’s homeless shelter.
A belligerent man asking an employee at the CVS Pharmacy, 76 North Pleasant St., to give him needles so he could use heroin at 4:01 p.m. Tuesday fled before police arrived.
After he allegedly walked into a stranger’s home on Woodbine Avenue at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, Patrick M. Lynn, 33, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, told police he was trying to surprise his cousin whom he thought lived in the house. A woman who was inside the home when Lynn allegedly walked in called police. Lynn was arrested after police determined he had a warrant issued by Eastern Hampshire District Court for operating while under the influence, negligent operation, failure to stop for police and driving with an open container of alcohol.
David G. Fleming, of 400 Burts Pit Road in Florence, was arrested at his residence about 6 p.m. Tuesday on charges of operating while under the influence of alcohol, two counts of leaving the scene of a property damage accident and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Police tracked Fleming to his residence after he was reported driving erratically, sideswiping two cars and leaving the scene.
Angel M. Arroyo, 29, of West Springfield, was arrested at 3:48 p.m. Tuesday near Bridge Street and Damon Road on charges of driving on a suspended license and without an inspection sticker. Police made a traffic stop on Arroyo’s vehicle when an officer noted there was no inspection sticker visible.
Police responded at 1:17 p.m. Tuesday to a residence on Hatfield Street after they received reports of a fire confined to a backyard. When officers arrived, they determined at least three juveniles were attempting to start a fire with wood. Police said they continue an investigation.
