NORTHAMPTON — A Hampshire Superior Court grand jury on Monday indicted a Springfield man accused of breaking into a home in Easthampton during February.
Roberto W. Hernandez, 50, was charged with breaking and entering in the daytime, according to court record.
Hernandez allegedly tried to break down the front door of a home on Stone Path Lane the morning of Feb. 26.
Hernandez will be arraigned in Superior Court, on a date had not been set Wednesday.
Police said Hernandez sped away in a pickup truck that was leaking oil as the woman phoned 911. Authorities stopped the truck, which was still leaking oil, on the ramp to Interstate 91 southbound.
Hernandez has a criminal history dating back at least to 1995, according to court records. He was convicted in January 2008 in Hampden Superior Court on breaking and entering charges and was sentenced to serve between six snd eight years in state prison.
In April 1999, Hernandez was convicted of a weapons possession charge and sentenced to three years in prison. In February 1995, he was convicted of breaking and entering and sentenced to between 3½ and 10 years in prison, according to court records. Both convictions were in Hampden Superior Court.
Most recently, Hernandez was arrested in October in Springfield on breaking and entering charges, larceny and possession of heroin.
