NORTHAMPTON — No one was injured in a small basement fire on Water Street on Wednesday night, according to the Northampton Fire Department.

The department responded at 7 p.m. to report of a fire inside the residence and had extinguished the fire within five minutes. The residents had evacuated the structure prior to the department’s arrival.

Deputy Chief William Millin said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but did not appear to be suspicious. The fire is still under investigation.

A fire department spokesperson said Thursday morning he did not believe the fire was related to Northampton’s string of suspicious fires in Ward 3.
