The UMass women’s lacrosse team broke the NCAA record for the longest conference winning streak and moved into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic 10 in the process.

The Minutewomen gave up the first two goals of the game but scored eight of the next 10 and rolled to a 13-9 win over George Mason, Friday in Fairfax, Virginia.

It was their 39th consecutive A-10 victory, surpassing Northwestern’s total of 38 set from 2005-11 in the Big Ten .

Nicole Troost had four goals, while Erika Eipp added two goals and four assists for UMass (10-1, 3-0 A-10).

Baseball

UMass 3, St. Bonaventure 2; St. Bonaventure 5, UMass 3 — Brett Evangelista (two RBIs) hit a ninth-inning RBI double to knock in the game-winning run for UMass in Game One Friday.

Evan Mackintosh pitched the ninth and picked up the save for the Minutemen (6-12, 2-3 A-10).

Mike Geannelis and Mike Hart each had two hits and an RBI in the Game Two loss.

Amherst College 11, Williams 4 — Yanni Thanopoulos hit a three-run home run in the third and finished 3 for 5 with four RBIs for Amherst.

Softball

Amherst College 10, Hamilton 2 — Annie Murphy hit a three-run homer as Amherst (12-4, 3-0 NESCAC) cruised at home.

Murphy finished with four RBI.

Jackie Buechler struck out six and allowed one run for the win.

Springfield 3, Smith College 0; Springfield 9, Smith College 3 — The Pioneers (6-12, 3-5 NEWMAC) lost a pair on the road.

Rowan Turner had four hits, including a triple, in Game Two.

Sarah Tully, Caroline Kushner and Tori Brown each had an RBI for Smith in the loss.

Women’s tennis

UMass 4, Quinnipiac 1 — Ruth Crawford defeated Sophia Dzulynsky in No. 1 singles 6-2, 7-5 in the road victory for UMass (11-6).
