Rowan Turner powered the Smith College softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Wellesley at home Saturday.
The Pioneers won 10-9 and 5-1 in Northampton.
Turner went 3-for-4 for the Pioneers (8-12, 5-5) in game one of Saturday’s double header. She was on the mound in game two and surrendered one run on 11 hits.
UMass 2, St. Joseph’s 1; St. Joseph’s 7, UMass 1 – Ashton Wince hit a walk-off single to complete the Minutewomen’s (10-19, 4-3 A10) comeback and take the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader against St. Joseph’s (13-15-1, 4-5-1 A10). Tara Klee hit a home run in game two.
St. Joseph’s 3, UMass 0 – Meg Colleran struck out five batters and allowed five hits on two runs Sunday, but the Minutewomen (10-20, 4-4 A-10) were shut out by the Hawks (14-15-1, 5-4-1 A-10).
Amherst 11, Hamilton 2; Hamilton 10, Amherst 5 – The Purple & White (13-5, 4-1 NESCAC) drew nine walks and delivered 10 hits en route to Saturday’s game-one win. In game two, The Continentals (9-10, 2-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to surge ahead.
Amherst 5, Williams 2; Williams 5, Amherst 4 – Riley Streit (2-1) pitched a complete game for the Purple & White (14-4, 4-2 NESCAC West) in Saturday’s front end of the doubleheader against the Ephs (6-12, 2-4 NESCAC West).
In game two, Amherst was unable to bring home the tying run, which stood on third base in the bottom of the ninth.
St. Bonaventure 7, UMass 3 – Dylan Morris went 2-for-5 in the Minutemen (6-13, 2-4 A10) loss on Sunday. Mike Geannelis was 1-for-3 with a walk and a RBI.
Amherst 8, Colby 4 – Three players scored two goals for the Purple & White (7-2, 4-2 NESCAC) on Saturday against Colby (8-2, 4-2 NESCAC). Amherst has won six of its last seven games.
Springfield 12, Mt. Holyoke 2 – Julia Bell and Charlotte Wagner each had a goal for Mount Holyoke (1-8, 0-4) in Saturday’s loss to Springfield (9-2, 4-0).
Wellesley 17, Smith 9 – Julia Hamilton scored four goals on Saturday, but the Pioneers (4-7, 0-3 NEWMAC) were outscored 11-3 in the second half of Saturday’s loss.
Amherst 12, Colby 9 – Quinn Moroney scored four goals for the Purple & White (9-2, 5-1 NESCAC) in Saturday’s win over the Mules (3-8, 0-6 NESCAC). Cody Tranbarger made nine saves for Amherst.
Smith Invitational – Smith’s Katy McClellan and Zoe Rubinstein placed first in the javelin and pole vault, respectively. McClellan threw 36.03 meters in the javelin, while Rubinstein vaulted 3.26 meters.
Mt. Holyoke’s Elizabeth DeLeon won the 1500-meter run, finishing in 5:03.02. The senior also finished eighth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:32.78.
Leap Year Quad Meet – UMass defeated Northeastern and Vermont, scoring 137 points, beating the Huskies by one and the Catamounts by 30 on Saturday. Colleen Sands won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10 minutes 56.18 seconds.
Amherst Invitational – Amherst finished in third behind WPI and Coast Gurad on Saturday. Victoria Hensley earned a second place finish in the 400-meter dash, running a time of 59.48.
Northeastern 160, UMass 118, Vermont 93 – John Chuma set a new school record, vaulting 15 feet 11 inches in the pole vault Saturday.
Deion Arneaud won the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet eight inches.
UMass 6, Bryant 1 – Laura Moreno won her singles match 6-3, 6-2 to lead the Minutewomen (12-6) on Saturday. Ariel Griffin also won her singles match in straight sets (6-0, 6-4).
Amherst 8, MIT 1 – The Purple & White (8-4, 2-0 NESCAC) won five of six singles matches in Saturday’s win over the Engineers (11-5). Jackie Calla completed a three-set victory (5-7, 6-3, 11-9) to help Amherst.
Seven Sisters Championship – Ayame Yazawa defeated Kendall Baller 6-1, 6-0 to lead Mount Holyoke (12-9) to a win over Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Madison Rosen and sophomore Ishita Tibrewal won 7-5, 6-2 for the Lyons in their win over Smith on Sunday. The Lyons finished third in the Seven Sisters Championship, while the Pioneers (4-14) finished last.
Amherst 6, Bowdoin 3 – Vicky Ip picked up a singles win (6-0, 7-6) to help the Purple & White (8-4, 2-0 NESCAC) get past the Polar Bears (10-2, 4-1 NESCAC) on Sunday. Avery Wagman won her singles match for Amherst, as well 6-4, 7-5.
Amherst 8, Bates 1 – Aaron Revzin and Michael Solimano won their doubles match 8-5 for the Purple & White (12-4, 3-1 NESCAC) in Saturday’s win. Anton Zykov was victorious in his singles match, winning in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 10-7).
Bowdoin 9, Amherst 0 – Ben Fife and Zach Bessette dropped their doubles match 9-8 in the Purple & White’s (12-5, 3-2 NESCAC) loss on Sunday.
Zone 1 Championships – Mount Holyoke earned a second-place finish on Saturday aided by Grace Tice and Bridget Finnerty, who placed third and sixth respectively in the individual competition.
