Balance both in who scored and when they scored led the South Hadley boys lacrosse team past Chicopee Comp on Saturday.
Six Tigers scored in a 10-7 road victory led by three from Marcus Larrier, who also chipped in an assist.
Jason Fernandes had two goals and three assists, Shane Smith scored twice and Matthew Brandts, Pat Crotty and Stephen Stratton also found the net.
Corey Calkus made 13 saves for South Hadley (1-1).
Granby 7, St. Mary 2 – Noah Bleakley struck out eight and only walked one in a complete-game victory Saturday in Westfield.
He allowed four hits and two runs while collecting a hit at the plate.
Joe Desormier had two hits for Granby (1-0, 1-0 Bi-County North), while Joe Bessette and EJ Wiley drove in two runs each.
Saint Peter-Marian 2, Amherst 1 – Nathan Masteralexis allowed just two runs in six innings of work, but the Hurricanes fell at home Sunday to the defending Central Mass. champions Sunday.
Jake Balderston and Julian Burgoff had hits for Amherst (0-1).
Both teams scored single runs in the fourth inning, and the Guardians struck again in the sixth.
“To come out with that mentality that we can play with anyone was encouraging,” Amherst coach Greg Vourous said.
Turners Falls 1, Smith Academy 0 – A solo home run in the top of the second inning sunk the Falcons in their season opener Sunday.
John Ferrara took the loss for Smith Academy (0-1) despite allowing just the one run on four total hits.
He struck out nine and walked just one in six innings of work.
Kevin Banas and Thomas Hammond both had two hits for the Falcons.
