Hampshire Regional softball senior Alexis Ferris hurled a no-hitter against Northampton, tallying 13 strikeouts in an 18-0 road win Monday.
Northampton coach Andy Pelis said his team was simply too young and inexperienced for “one of the best pitchers in western Massachusetts” when she’s at her best.
Madison Philbrook led Hampshire (1-0) with four hits in four trips and five RBIs.
The Raiders got started with a four-run third inning and poured it on from there. They added 10 runs in the seventh.
Chelsea Mousette went 3 for 6 with two infield hits for the Raiders.
Drury 8, Frontier Regional 7 (8) — The Red Hawks rallied with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to force extra innings, but the Blue Devils held on in both teams’ season opener in South Deerfield.
Hannah Adams tied the game with a two-out RBI double to score Lauren MacDonald in the seventh.
Ava Harper and Mindy Esposito (three hits) each singled in the eighth, but Frontier couldn’t scratch out the tying run.
Lexa Boyden had two hits, including a homer in the sixth. Kenzie Patterson (RBI) added three hits, while Sarah Munier had two RBIs.
MacDonald struck out four and walked three in her varsity debut.
Monson 2, Granby 0 — Abi Beauregard allowed two hits, two walks and struck out five, but the Rams could only muster two bunt singles by junior Lexi Strycharz in a road loss.
East Longmeadow 8, South Hadley 4 — Kate Bishop drove in two runs, but the Tigers fell at home in their season opener.
Abby Edge collected two hits and stole three bases, and Nicole Niemiec struck out three in taking the loss for South Hadley (0-1).
Easthampton 17, Pope Francis 5 (5) — Kadyrose Newman drove in four runs in the Eagles’ season-opening road win.
She was one of five Easthampton players with three hits.
Gabby Downer drove in three runs on three hits.
Stephanie Therrien picked up the win, striking out seven over five innings.
Alexa Keough took the loss for Pope Francis (0-1).
She also tied for the Cardinals’ lead with two hits with Maddie Sutton, while Calli Orzechowski had two RBIs.
West Springfield 12, Amherst 0 (6) — Megan Rice had the Hurricanes’ only hit in a road loss.
Aliya Bartmon struck out nine but walked eight and allowed eight hits to take the loss for Amherst (0-2).
Smith Vocational 12, Hopkins Academy 11 — Amanda York tied the game for the Vikings with a triple in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Smith then used three walks by Hopkins pitcher Macy Ring to score the winning run across.
Allie Kowalczyk led Smith Voke (2-0) with three RBIs.
Sam VonHaugg got the win for the Vikings.
Erin Tudryn hit a home run for Hopkins (0-1) and finished with two RBIs.
Caroline Cristoforo also drove in two runs for the Golden Hawks and finished with four hits.
McCann Tech 20, Smith Academy 4 — Olivia Cavanaugh and Erin Gilrein drove in one run reach for the Falcons in a season-opening home loss.
