As co-chairs of the Downtown Northampton Association (DNA) we are deeply disappointed by the recent editorial in the Daily Hampshire Gazette regarding restaurant labor practices.
Any business that treats its employees poorly should face appropriate sanction through our legal system and in the court of public opinion. It is, however, the height of irresponsibility to paint an entire local industry with one broad negative brush based on an unvetted study and the poor practices of some.
The DNA welcomes and will help foster a communitywide conversation that both exposes wrongdoing wherever it lies and celebrates those who do things the right way.
