Superdelegate politicians should stay the course

Some of Bernie Sanders’ supporters have called for Congressmen Richard Neal and James McGovern and New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan to switch their pledged support as superdelegates to the Democratic National Convention from Hillary Clinton to Sanders because their districts and state voted for Sanders.

These elected officials announced their choice well before the primaries took place, and publicly explained the reasons why they believe Clinton is the better choice to be the Democratic nominee for president.

Sticking to one’s principles and explaining one’s reasons to constituents is called leadership, and it is one of the qualities that most Sanders supporters like about him.

One hopes that those who call for Neal, McGovern and Hassan to make a poll-driven flip-flop will recognize the hypocrisy of their demand and instead demonstrate the same integrity as these leaders, each of whom has vowed to support the eventual Democratic nominee.
