NORTHAMPTON — Christopher J. Burnham is facing drug charges after police said they seized 21 bags of cocaine and more than $6,000 in cash after serving a search warrant Wednesday in an outside area near King Street and Merrick Lane.

Burnham, 38, who lists his address as the streets of Northampton, was arrested at 3:23 p.m. and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, police said.

Burnham remained in custody Thursday evening at the Hampshire County House of Correction, with cash bail set at $750.

The arrest was part of a continuing initiative by the Northampton Police Department, Northwestern District Attorney’s Anti-Crime Task Force and Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team following a several-weeks-long investigation, Northampton Police Capt. John Cartledge said Thursday.

“It’s a continuous operation,” Cartledge said. “It’s still in forward motion,” adding that more arrests are likely, though he could not elaborate.
