We want to thank Margaret Tudryn of Hadley for her recent guest column remembering Norinne J.Tiley and to add our own words of gratitude for the life of this remarkable woman, friend and mentor to so many.
Each of our four daughters’ careers at Northampton High School was enhanced by participation in all that “Mrs. Tiley” offered: music classes, band, chorus, Triple Trio (an all female a cappella group, and worthy predecessor of the current Northamptones), talent shows, festival competitions and of course the musicals that she directed and produced year after year.
Her performances of “Fiddler on the Roof,” “West Side Story,” “Guys and Dolls” and “Most Happy Fella,” to name a few, rivaled those same productions on Broadway! Norinne Tiley’s own musical gifts seemed boundless and we remember them with much joy and admiration.
But her ability to connect with young people, nurture their confidence and encourage talents many did not even know they had was truly her gift to our community. Long after high school, the students whose lives she touched continue to be inspired by that connection, confidence and encouragement. This is her lasting legacy. Thank you, Norinne.
