The Audubon Society has reported a variety of recent bird sightings in western Massachusetts.
Six upland sandpipers were seen in the Westover Grasslands at the end of West Road in Ludlow.
Two red-headed woodpeckers continue to be reported in Longmeadow.
An American bittern and a marsh wren were found in Lenox.
A great egret was seen in Springfield and a snowy egret was reported in Longmeadow.
A pair of evening grosbeaks have been coming to a feeder in Plainfield.
Three lesser scaup were seen at the southern end of the Quabbin Reservoir.
Wilson’s snipe continue to be seen in Hadley
Returning migrants and resident species reported included blue-winged teal, ring-necked duck, bufflehead, common loon, double-crested cormorant, osprey, northern harrier, broad-winged hawk and barred owl.
Plus spotted sandpiper, Virginia rail, whip-poor-will, merlin, blue-headed vireo, rough-winged swallow, barn swallow, red-breasted nuthatch, winter wren, house wren, blue-gray gnatcatcher, horned lark, pine warbler, palm warbler, vesper sparrow, fox sparrow, rusty blackbird and eastern meadowlark.
