Cookbook author Lynn Kirsche Shapiro will lead a workshop on making aranygaluska — Hungarian sweet dumplings — at a Mother’s Day event May 8, at 2 p.m. at the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst.

Kirsche Shapiro — the author of “Food, Family and Tradition: Hungarian Kosher Family Recipes and Remembrances” — will teach participants how to make the sweet golden dumplings, which are stuffed with preserves, nuts and spices.

She’ll also talk about her book, which mixes family recipes with the story of her immigrant parents, founders of the largest kosher market in the Midwest.

After the talk, participants will have a chance to sample a variety of aranygaluska and tea cookies, and Kirsche Shapiro will sign copies of her book.

More information about the workshop and other events at the Yiddish Book Center can be found at yiddishbookcenter.org/calendar.
