South Hadley

Joey Milewski, was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Syracuse University  in Syracuse, New York. He graduated cum laude in December 2015 from its College of Visual and Performing Arts, with a bacheler’s degree in the Bandier Program for Allied Arts and Entertainment. Milewski is currently employed by the William Morris Endeavor Talent Agency in Manhattan. He is the son of Jim and Cindy Milewski.

Whately

Amos Kohrman, a sixth-grader at Lander Grinspoon Academy in Northampton, was recognized at the State House in Boston March 15 for his award in the Massachusetts Letters About Literature program.

Students were encouraged to write a letter to a favored author, sharing the personal impact of a book in this reading and writing contest sponsored nationwide by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

Amos was commended for his letter to author Philip Reeve about “Mortal Engines,” a book that helped him see that it is up to each of us to make changes to achieve a sustainable way of life.

Honor Society ofPhi Kappa Phi

The following local residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Kylie Lanthorn, Daneal Portman, Milo Ray, Steven Tracy, Weicang Wang, all of Amherst,  Jacqueline Ben Abbes of Belchertown, Carlyn Ferari, Li-Sheng Wang, Lily Zhu, all of Hadley, Olivia Bernstein of Northampton, Renee Slater of South Hadley and Nneka Dennie of Sunderland, were initiated at the University of Massachusetts Amherst; Hannah Fleming of South Hadley was initiated at State University of New York at Cortland, and Tara Budrewicz of Southampton initiated at Westfield State University.

Keene State College

Audrey Boraski of Southampton and Christopher Wardlaw of Pelham presented their undergraduate research at Keene State College’s 16th Annual Academic Excellence Conference April 9.

This student professional conference is designed to showcase the academic work of Keene State students and the collaborative work between students and faculty. It allows students to share excellent work with a broad audience, and prepares them for submitting proposals to professional conferences.

Champlain College

Robert P. Stiller School of Business seniors Abigail Frary and Paige Schmittlein, both of Easthampton, were recognized for academic excellence at the annual Honoring Excellence Reception, held at Champlain College’s campus in Burlington, Vermont.

Frary is an accounting major and Schmittlein a management of creative media major.

Simmons College
