The UMass football team announced three new invited walk-ons, all from Massachusetts, who’ll join the Minutemen for the 2016 season.
Wahconah Regional tight end Cole Morrison, who lists himself at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds on HUDL.com, caught four passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns as senior.
Randy Alay, a 6-foot, 220-pound (HUDL) kicker from Waltham, converted 10-of-12 field goals and all 16 extra points during the 2015 high school season. He made 9-of-10 field goals beyond 40 yards.
Boston College High school’s Adam Tucker (6-foot-1, 200 pounds HUDL) played defensive end and tight end in high school, but UMass projects him as a linebacker.
George Washington 4, UMass 3 – The No. 2-seeded Minutewomen’s hopes for a deep run in the Atlantic 10 Tournament came up short.
The match was decided on a very tight No. 4 singles matchup that GW’s Taylor Nederlander clinched with a 7-5 win in the fifth set.
UMass 18, Richmond 10 – The Spiders became the first team this season to crack double digits in scoring against the No. 19 Minutewomen, but it wasn’t enough to derail defending Atlantic 10 champs.
UMass (14-1, 7-0 A-10) can clinch the league’s regular season title Sunday when they play at VCU, which is in its first season playing the sport.
Callie Santos led UMass with five goals, while Hannah Burnett added four. They each had one assist. Holly Turner added two goals and four assists.
Amherst College 5, Middlebury 0 – Junior Jackson Vollle improved to 6-0, scattering six hits to earn the win for Amherst.
Harry Roberson had three hits, two RBIs and a rin for Amherst (18-7, 5-2 NESCAC).
