HADLEY — A 2003 Acura sustained heavy damage when it collided with a large 1994 John Deere farm tractor on Mill Valley Road Monday morning, said Hadley Police Sgt. Mitchell Kuc.
The accident occurred at 7:30 a.m. after an outer tire on the oversized tractor, taking up more than a full traffic lane and driven by a 64-year-old Hadley man, clipped the eastbound passenger car, driven by a 21-year-old Poughkeepsie, New York woman, Kuc said. No personal injuries were reported and no citations were issued, as police determined neither driver was at fault, and a contributing factor was a nearby blind curve, Kuc said.
“I don’t think there is anything either driver could have done,” Kuc said.
While crashes involving farm equipment are not common, when there are accidents they can cause heavy damage due to the size of the machinery, Kuc said. With numerous farm vehicles out on Hadley roads this spring, Kuc said motorists should be patient when trying to pass them and should attempt to pull to the side if a large tractor is approaching.
Police were on scene for about 35 minutes as a tow truck responded to remove the damaged car. At the scene of the accident, the driver of the car hugged a friend, who arrived in a separate vehicle.
