As regards the Calvin Theatre sign: One can only speculate why the owner of this prominent building, who also owns many other properties, has not fixed it in what most people would consider a very long time.
It is an eyesore. Northampton residents, business owners and visitors who spend money downtown deserve better. Luckily, the public has the opportunity to vote with their wallets and can choose not to support a business derelict in its operations, or in tune with sensibilities about corporate citizenship. One might think, knowing that there is going to be a new MGM entertainment complex competing for customers, that Northampton businesses, city leaders and residents should want to present their city in the best possible light. It is in our collective interests.
