EASTHAMPTON — A man wanted on a warrant issued by Holyoke District Court led local and state police officers on a chase through the woods and several yards in the area of Lawndale Street starting about 10:55 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers found Matthew Ivory hiding in a shed on West Street, where police arrested him.
The chase began when an off-duty Easthampton officer spotted Ivory driving in the area of West Street, recognized him as being wanted on a warrant and called dispatch.
According to a press release issued by the Easthampton Police Department, an officer initiated a traffic stop on West Street and then chased Ivory on foot after he fled. Several Easthampton and state police officers were then involved in the hunt for Ivory.
Easthampton Police did not specify the original charge against Ivory which resulted in the Holyoke District Court warrant.
Ivory now faces additional charges of failure to stop for a police officer and operating after suspension of his license (subsequent offense), according to Easthampton Police.
