GREAT BARRINGTON (AP) — Police say a 75-year-old man was killed when the SUV he was driving was struck by a train in Great Barrington.
Chief William Walsh said Gary Kane, of Mount Washington, struck one of the arms of the gates at a railroad crossing and drove over the tracks at about 1 p.m. Thursday, into the path of a 14-car train.
The impact of the collision flipped the vehicle on its roof. The train stopped and the operator was not hurt.
Walsh says the gates were down and the lights flashing, indicating the northbound train was approaching.
The crash remains under investigation.
