HADLEY — A section of River Road (Route 47) was still closed Saturday morning after an accident that left about 250 people without power Friday night.

About 10 p.m., a 20-year-old Hadley man driving a Ford pickup truck crashed into a utility pole on River Drive, splitting it, according to police. No injuries were reported.

The man told police he swerved to avoid hitting a raccoon and collided first with the guardrail, then the utility pole.

Police said temporary generators were deployed, which enabled Eversource to restore power within two hours of the crash. The closed portion of River Road was re-opened at noon on Saturday.

Hadley police said Sunday at 2:00 p.m. no charges had been filed against the man at this time.
