The Belchertown boys lacrosse team made its only lead against Granby count Monday.

Christian Assimus scored with under two minutes left as the Orioles beat the Rams, 6-5, in Belchertown.

Ben Magarian scored his third goal to tie the game at 5-5 for the Orioles.

Belchertown went to a man-to-man defense late and got several stops to stem the Rams.

Granby goalie Nick Albers has “incredible hands and can pass the length of the field on clears,” Belchertown coach Patrick Nee said. “Our long poles finally picked him off in the fourth.”

Grant Irving (three assists) and Ray Langevin each scored a goal, while Assimus added one assist.

Josh Cox made 15 saves for Belchertown (4-4).

Sawyer Mahan had two goals, while Bailey Ortensi (assist), Noah Bistol and Jack Sarnacki each scored once for Granby (2-4).

Albers finished with 23 saves for the third-year program.

“They’re not pushovers anymore,” Nee said. “It’s a good rivalry. I have two school choice kids (from Granby) so the kids know each other.”

South Hadley 16, Amherst Regional 15 — Griffin Fitzell (two assists) and Pat Crotty (two assists) each had four goals as the Tigers (4-6) held off the Hurricanes (1-8) at home.

Shane Smith and Matt Brandts each had three goals, while Jason Fernandes (assist) added two.

Marcus Larrier (assist), Liam Dawson (goal), James Moriarty (assist), Jack Dawson (assist) and Nate Zayas (assist) each had a point for South Hadley.

Corey Calkins made 16 saves in the win.

Aidan Bass and Vance Canella (assist) each had three goals, while Willy Wright (two assists), Liam Kelly and Daniel Lyra each had two goals for Amherst.

Jake Hibbard made eight saves in defeat.

Williston Northampton 14, Northfield Mount Hermon 6 — Aidan Rai had four goals and one assist, and Kevin O’Sullivan won 17-of-21 faceoffs as the Wildcats won on the road.

Girls lacrosse

Northampton 18, South Hadley 3 — The Blue Devils (9-1, 3-1 Valley Wheel) jumped out to a 10-1 halftime en route to qualifying for the postseason with the win at Smith College.

Sophie Melcher and Megan McCarthy each had four goals and one assists, while Abby Baldwin (assist) added three goals.

Ursa Heidinger and Alli Zadworny each had a pair of goals and assists for Hamp.

Matti Tacy added two goals, while Grace Goodwin-Boyd had one goal and one assist. Bridget Harrington made five saves in net.

Taylor Roy, Emma Slysz and Marley Medina each had one goal, and Sarah Lacey had one assist for South Hadley (2-7, 0-4).

Brooke Blair (no saves) and Hanna Kopec (six saves) split time in goal for the Tigers.

Agawam 17, Belchertown 2 — Audrey Duhaime and Kate Bowers each scored an unassisted goal but the Orioles (3-6) couldn’t keep up on the road.

Kailey Pacheco made five saves in the loss.

Brattleboro Union 7, Amherst Regional 6 — Meghan Sharick (assist) scored three goals, while Malia MacDonald added two but the Hurricanes (2-8) dropped a close one at home.

Jane O’Connell scored a goal and Taya Mathers made seven saves in defeat.

Boys volleyball

East Longmeadow 3, Belchertown 2 — The oriole rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force a five game, but the Spartans took it from there, winning 25-14, 25-16, 23-25, 19-25, 15-13 in Belchertown.

Anthony Hosmer had 33 kills, five blocks and three aces, while Drew Duquette had 27 assists, two blocks, three aces and six kills to power Belchertown (3-8).

Hichul Chung had a perfect game serving and added nine assists.

Softball

Granby 9, McCann Tech 6 — Brie Heath (two doubles) went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs as the Rams (5-5) held on for their fourth straight win.

Granby added two runs in the sixth to break away from a 7-6 affair.

Kate Sullivan (two RBis) added a double and triple, while Lexi Strycharz (run, two RBis) was 2 for 3.

Abi Beauregard struck out eight, walked four and allowed one earned run on six hits for the win.
