Regarding the missing letter “A’”on the marquee at the Calvin Theatre, I believe I may have found a solution: Back in November 2010, my wife and I bought tickets to see Medeski, Martin & Wood play a show at the Calvin. The show was moved, at the last minute, to the clubroom at Pearl Street.
That was fine with us; it ended up being a more intimate show and we were able to get right up to the stage. They wailed.
Some days later, an IHEG employee went rogue and emailed all of us who had attended the show to inform us that we had been overcharged due the Historic Preservation Fee added on to tickets for shows at the Calvin.
The Northampton Box Office website still clearly states that there is a $2 fee for shows at the Calvin. By my estimation and best recollection, there were about 200 people at the Medeski, Martin & Wood show that night. That rounds out to roughly $400 in non-refunded Historic Preservation dollars for the Calvin for a show that never occurred there.
Does anyone have a big letter “A” they’re willing to sell to Eric Suher for $400 bucks?
