The UMass softball team swept Dayton this weekend to earn the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Seeds were announced Sunday for the six-team, double-elimination tournament held at George Washington.

Fordham is the top seed followed Dayton. Saint Louis is No. 4, Saint Josephโ€™s No. 5 and GW No. 6.

UMass and GW play Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

Meg Colleran pitched the complete-game shutout in Saturdayโ€™s 4-0 win over Dayton. Taylor Carbone shut out the Flyers in game two, 7-0.

In Sundayโ€™s 4-1 win, Colleran earned the victory and Carbone the save.

Jenna Coza went a combined 5 for 9 with five runs and three RBIs in the series. She also hit her 11th homer of the season in the series.

Carbone also went 5 for 9.

Tufts 3, Amherst 1; Amherst 4, Trinity 3 โ€” Amherst placed third Saturday in the NESCAC double-elimination tournament in Williams.

Sammy Salustri went 4 for 8 for Amherst (24-12).

Baseball

Richmond 14, UMass 4; Richmond 6, UMass 3 (11); UMass 8, Richmond 3 โ€” The Minutemen (14-22, 7-11 Atlantic 10) avoided the series sweep with a victory on Sunday in Virginia.

Brandon Walsh fanned six and walked three over seven innings for the win.

Mike Hart went 2 for 3 with a homer, while Mike Geannelis had a bases-clearing double in a seven-run eighth for UMass.

Amherst 9, Colby 1; Amherst 1, Colby 0; Stevens Institute 8, Amherst 5 โ€” Dave Cunningham went 4 for 5 with two runs, two RBIs and two walks in Saturdayโ€™s sweep of Colby.

Cunningham added a three-run homer in the first inning Sunday but AC (23-11) fell on the road.

Womenโ€™s lacrosse

Middlebury 13, Amherst 4 โ€” Rachel Passarelli had two goals but AC (12-4) was eliminated Saturday in the semifinal round of the NESCAC tournament at Trinity.

Menโ€™s tennis

Bowdoin 5, Amherst 0 โ€” Sixth-seeded Amherst (15-9) was swept out of the NESCAC tournament with the semifinal loss at Bates College Saturday.

Womenโ€™s tennis

Middlebury 5, Amherst 4 โ€” AC led 2-1 after doubles, but Middlebury pulled out two three-set singles matches to win the NESCAC tournament semifinal, Saturday at Bates.

Williams 5, Middlebury 0 โ€” Amherst native Maya Hart and Giulia McDonnell Nieto del Rio gave the Ephs (18-3) a 1-0 lead en route to the sweep in the NESCAC championship, Sunday at Bates.

The defending NCAA Division III champions earned an automatic bid the tournament.

Menโ€™s track & field

Atlantic 10 championships โ€” UMass finished fifth with 63 points, Sunday at George Mason.

Benjamin Groleau (1,500 3:52.70) and Kristopher Horn (decathlon, 7,061) placed first, while John Chuma (pole vault, 15-5) was second for the Minutemen.

New England Division III championships โ€” Jeff Seelaus was second in the 5,000 (14:57.20) as Amherst finished tied for ninth, Saturday at Springfield College.

Northampton native Aidan Gilson was second in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:20.61) for MIT, which won the championship with 179.5 points.

Womenโ€™s track & field

Atlantic 10 championships โ€” UMass finished fifth with 82.5 points, Sunday at George Mason.

Emilie Cowan (400, 54.52), Colleen Sands (3,000 steeplechase, 10:36.62), Kelsey Crawford (shot put, 47-1; javelin, 146-0) and Bridget Deveau (heptathlon, 5,048 points) earned placed second for the Minutewomen.

New England Division III championships โ€” Becki Golia was fourth (1.59 meters) in the high jump for Amherst College, which finished 19th out of 31 teams at Springfield College Saturday.

Equestrian

IHSA National Championships โ€” Mount Holyoke was named Reserve Champion, Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

The Lyons finished second overall in a field of 16 with 20 points.

Sophomore Sabrina Fox (Westfield) earned Mount Holyokeโ€™s highest finish in the three-day event. Riding Cazenovia Collegeโ€™s Collins, Fox won the Collegiate Cup Walk-Trot-Canter.

Womenโ€™s rowing

Atlantic 10 championships โ€” UMass tied Rhode Island for first place with 51 points, but the Rams took the championship via a tiebreaker at Fairfax Station, Virginia, Sunday.

The Varsity 8+ final served as the tiebreaker. URI won in 7:37.3. UMass was second in 7:39.34.

The Minutewomen Varsity 8+ team was Haley Eovine, Daniella du Toit, Emily Mann, Grace Bundy, Zoe Hill, Abby Norwood, Pippa Edwards, Natalie Boisvert and Allanah Rubi-Mooney.
