Allison McCann will defend her Western Massachusetts individual tennis championship from a familiar position — the top.
The Amherst Regional senior is the No. 1 seed for the tournament, which will take place over the next two weekends.
McCann was the top seed last season when she won her first sectional individual crown. She will look to join her sister Nicole with multiple titles. Nicole won her championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Overall, Amherst has claimed the last seven individual sectional titles. Maya Hart won from 2009-11.
Allison McCann beat this tournament’s No. 2 seed in the finals last year as Hailey Gurski of Minnechaug fell 6-1, 6-1.
Meghan Bernard of Belchertown is the No. 3 seed, followed by Cara Freadman of Monument and Suzanne Elfman of Longmeadow.
Phoebe Gelbard, of Northampton, is seeded sixth. Amherst teammates Margaret O’Connell and Nya Saunders are 10th and 11th, respectively.
There are no local players seeded in the doubles tournament. Christine Mayotte & Sara Salerno of Minnechaug are the top seed.
The girls tournament will start with singles and doubles play at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Smith College in Northampton.
The tournament will continue on May 21 and 22 at Longmeadow Tennis Courts.
Amherst Regional’s Andy Zyskowski is seeded third in boys singles. Alex Zimbalist of Northampton is fourth.
Will Chen of Longmeadow is No. 1 followed by Matt Gurski of Minnechaug.
Amherst Regional landed the No. 2 seed in the doubles tournament with Nathan Ji and Dennis Shen.
Alec Morgado and Dennis Lelic of Belchertown are third, with Nat Jones and Jack Denhart of Northampton fourth.
Ben Schneider and David Bogdanis of Longmeadow are seeded first.
The entire boys tournament will be held at Longmeadow. Doubles and singles matches begin at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Play will continue on May 21 and 22.
