Kane Haffey scored five times, and Dylan Park had four goals, as the Amherst College men’s lacrosse team knocked off No. 2 RIT 17-14 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

Amherst (14-4) trailed 3-1 after the first quarter but scored eight goals in the second.

Thomas Gilligan made 15 saves for Amherst, which will play St. Lawrence on Wednesday at Hall/Leet Stadium in Canton, New York.

Baseball

Rhode Island 11, UMass 8; UMass 6, Rhode Island 3 — Cooper Mrowki had three RBIs and his first collegiate triple, as the Minutemen (15-26, 8-13 A-10) split over the weekend.

Softball

Fordham 6, UMass 2 — Jena Cozz and Lindsey Zenk each had two hits in an A-10 tournament loss that ended the Minutewomen’s season Sunday.

The Minutewomen (26-24, 15-6 A-10) lost 5-2 to Saint Joseph’s on Saturday to drop into the loser’s bracket.

Men’s track

IC4A Championship — UMass’ 4×800-meter relay team of Michael McNaughton, Ben Gendron, Alexander Finestone and Stephen Ness finished fourth in Sunday’s final, clocking in 7 minutes, 46.4 seconds.

The Minutemen finished 38th out of 47 scoring teams.

NEICAAA Championships — Amherst finished 19th as a team Saturday.

Jeff Seelaus took third in the 3,000 steeplechase at 9:21.36.

The 4×800 team of Kristian Sogaard, Vernon Espinoza, Steven Lucey and Chris Butko also took third in 7:39.06.

Women’s track

New England Championships — UMass finished in seventh as a team propelled by three top-two finishes Sunday.

Mary Lavery, Olivia Weir, Caroline Leung and Emilie Cowan won the 4×800 relay in 9:12.7, UMass’ fifth consecutive outdoor title in the event.

Kelsey Crawford won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 47 feet, 7.75 inches, second best in program history.

Cowan also finished second in the 400, breaking her own school record in 53.92.

Open New England Championships — Abbey Asare-Bediako took 10th in the triple jump at 11.24 meters for Amherst, while Leoni Rauls was 16th in the 800 at 2:16.92.

Women’s tennis

Amherst 5, SUNY Genesco 0; Amherst 5, Wesleyan 2 – The Purple and White advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament with back to back wins over the weekend.

Jackie Calla clinched the second round victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

Women’s lacrosse

Amherst 12, York 7 — Mia Haughton and Hanna Krueger scored three goals each to help Amherst advance to the third round of the NCAA tournament Sunday.

Amherst (13-4) scored seven straight goals to open the second half.

Christy Forrest made 10 saves.
