Megan McCarthy shouldered the load to lift the Northampton girls lacrosse team to a postseason berth.

The senior finished with five goals and three assists in an 18-11 road win over Amherst on Saturday.

Sophie Melcher and Abby Baldwin each scored four goals for Northampton (10-3).

Bridget Harrington made six saves for the Blue Devils.

Megan Sharik led Amherst (3-12) with six goals and an assist.

Jane Oโ€™Connell scored three times for the Hurricanes, while Taya Mathers made eight saves.

Baseball

Hampshire Regional 4, Putnam 0 โ€” Brandon Weyant drove in two runs in a home win Saturday.

Noah Batchelder hit a double for the Raiders (6-4).

Hopkins Academy 7, Mohawk Trail 1 โ€“ John Earle drove in two runs in the Golden Hawksโ€™ home win Saturday.

Trevor Fil also had two hits for Hopkins (8-5).

Softball

Turners Falls 2, Hampshire Regional 0 โ€” Alexis Ferris struck out 14 batters in the Raiders first loss of the season Sunday.

Danielle McGan went 2-for-3 and hit a double that just missed going over the fence for Hampshire (14-1).

Turners Falls scored both of its runs in the top of the seventh inning on a solo homer and a Raiders error.

โ€œWe had our chances,โ€ Hampshire coach Brian McGan said. โ€œItโ€™s only a game. Better to get it off your shoulders now than later in the playoffs.โ€

Mohawk Trail 14, Hopkins Academy 2 (5) โ€” The Cristoforos, Caroline and Kelsea, drove in a run each in the Golden Hawks home loss Saturday.

Erin Tudryn also hit a double for Hopkins (1-11, 1-7 Franklin).

Boys lacrosse

Algonquin 19, South Hadley 9 โ€” Jason Fernandes scored four goals and added an assist in a road loss Saturday.

Pat Crotty and Stephen Stratton added two goals each, while Griffin Fitzell dished out three assists for the Tigers (5-9).

Corey Calkins made 13 saves in the South Hadley net.

Boys ultimate

Four Rivers tournament โ€” Northampton took down the host 15-11 in the final to claim the title Saturday.

It was the Blue Devilsโ€™ first championship ever at the four rivers tournament.

They went 4-0, beating Pioneer Valley Performing arts 14-8, Longmeadow 13-6, Northfield Mount Herman 13-6 before meeting Four Rivers for the championship.

Amiel Hanley scored 15 goals, including one which came unassisted after he intercepted an opponentโ€™s pass in the end zone.

Sam Mescon scored eight times, and James Berger scord seven.

Mescon also led the team with seven passes defended.

Zach Levitt dished out 15 assists, while Mescon had 10.

Girls ultimate

Four Rivers tournament โ€” Northampton rolled to the final but lost 9-8 to Northfield Mount Herman on Saturday.

The Blue Devils beat St. Johnsbury 13-6, Four Rivers 13-6 and Lincoln-Sudbury 13-3.

Claire Babbott-Bryan led Northampton with 10 assists, while Emma Landsman had nine goals.
