Kathryn Mahony of Echo Hill in Amherst says her dog and her neighbor’s dog were playing in the yard one afternoon earlier this month when the pair went after something under a bush. It turned out to be a great horned owl. Over the next hour, the owl walked its way into the woods. Once there it got up onto a branch about 15 feet up, and as Mahony got close, it clicked its beak at her.
Mahony says she often hears owls calling early in the morning.
A week later she went out to see if her friend was still there. She found it on a branch about 25 to 30 feet up sitting next to two other great horned owls.
