AMHERST – A Sunderland man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly attempting to steal money from a laundromat on University Drive, police said.
Sean Dowers, 22, of 253 Amherst Road, was arrested at 12:09 a.m. in the parking lot at Newmarket Center shopping plaza on charges of breaking and entering during the nighttime to commit a felony and possession of burglary tools, said Amherst Police Detective Marcus Humber.
Humber said police were called by two employees who observed an intruder in The Laundry Club, 6 University Drive. The employees had secured the business at its 11 p.m. closing and went to get a coffee, returning a short time later and noticed Dowers trying to access the cash register.
When police got to the scene, Dowers fled and was arrested near his vehicle in the shopping center parking lot, Humber said. Nothing was stolen from the business.
