AMHERST – Two road projects in downtown Amherst will require detours this week.
On Thursday, Triangle Street will be closed between Cottage and East Pleasant streets for 10 hours.
From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Department of Public Works will be installing an electrical vault beneath the road. The vault will carry utility lines that are currently above ground. The work is being paid for with a portion of a $1.5 million MassWorks Infrastructure Program grant Amherst received in October 2014.
All vehicles will be detoured onto Pray Street.
On Friday, East Pleasant Street will have a final coat of pavement put down, with the road closed to northbound traffic between Strong and Triangle streets from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Warner Brothers LLC and All States Asphalt are handling the work.
A detour will require drivers to use Triangle, Main and North Whitney streets to access Red Gate Lane and Strong Street, before returning to East Pleasant Street.
Southbound traffic will remain on East Pleasant during the paving, but some delays will occur.
Residents who live on the section being paved are advised to travel south when leaving their homes.
