A tight win at No. 3 singles helped the Belchertown boys tennis team edge Amherst Regional, 3-2, on Wednesday in Amherst.
Jon Vinagre earned a three-set win to clinch the match for the Orioles (12-5). Vinagre won 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (5) over Nathan Ji.
Belchertown swept doubles. Alec Morgado and Dennis Lelic beat Dennis Shen and Peter Hudlicka 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Noah Pare and Cyrus Raines won 6-2, 6-2 over Tristan Whalen-Cox and Yasu Watanabi at No. 2 doubles.
Calvin Lin beat Trent Zulkiewicz 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Pat O’Connell took down Ryan Kearney of Belchertown (12-5) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Hurricanes (5-8).
Correction
The result of the first singles match between Amherst Regional’s Allison McCann and Longmeadow’s Suzanne Elfman was incorrectly listed in Wednesday’s Gazette.
McCann beat Elfman 6-2, 6-0 during Amherst’s 3-2 loss to the Lancers in Longmeadow.
