The Easthampton softball team had one goal in mind when it made its hour-long ride to Dalton to play Wahconah on Thursday.

The No. 6 Eagles were there to win a Western Massachusetts Division 2 quarterfinal game.

They prevailed 3-2 over the third-seeded Warriors.

Kadyrose Newman went 3 for 4 and scored two runs in the win for the Eagles.

Olivia Downer hit an RBI double to score Newman in the third inning.

Downer scored Easthamptonโ€™s other run, while Sydney Slattery had two hits for the Eagles (13-6).

Stephanie Therrien struck out six and walked one in the circle for Easthampton, allowing five hits.

โ€œThey went there to win,โ€ Easthampton coach Homar Gomez said. โ€œThey believe in themselves that they can do it.โ€

The No. 6 Eagles (13-6) will play at No. 2 Palmer (16-4), which had a first-round bye, at 3 p.m. Tuesday at UMass.

Southwick 11, Frontier Regional 10 โ€” The fifth-seeded Red Hawks led 4-2 after the top of the fifth, when the No. 4 Rams struck for nine runs to pull away in the Division 2 quarterfinal.

Frontier rallied with six runs in the sixth but couldnโ€™t tie the game.

The Red Hawks finished 12-7. The Rams (16-5) will face No. 1 and defending state champion Hampshire Regional (18-2) at UMassโ€™ Sortino Field at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Sarah Meunier and Mindy Esposito each had two doubles and an RBI in defeat. Kenzie Patterson had one hit and two RBIs.

Emily Lachtara struck out 12 but walked nine in the win.

Lauren MacDonald fanned three and walked three over four innings for the loss.

It was the final game for seniors Hannah Adams, Mariah Morse and Esposito.

Baseball

Monument Mountain 7, Hampshire Regional 3 โ€” Brandon Weyant hit a double and a single while pitching a complete game for the Raiders.

Monument Mountain scored five runs in the first inning to put the Raiders on their heels in the Division 3 first round game.

Noah Batchelder and Greg Laroche picked up RBIs for Hampshire (10-9).

Riley Provost added a single.

It was the final game for Weyant, Hampshireโ€™s lone senior.
