Alec Morgado and Dennis Lelic set the tone for the top-seeded Belchertown boys team with a 6-2, 6-1 45-minute victory at No. 1 doubles.
The pair combined for 11 aces to pace the Orioles in a 5-0 win over Lee on Thursday in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 Tournament first round.
“They are definitely our staple,” coach Zach Siano said. “Now is the time for our singles guys to step up.”
Noah Pare and Cyrus Raines followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at second doubles. Ryan Kearney clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles.
Jon Vinagre made it 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 third-singles win.
Trent Zulkiewicz earned a long 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles.
Northampton 5, West Springfield 0 — No match went more than two sets as the Blue Devils swept their Division 1 Tournament first round match at home.
Alex Zimbalist handled Alec Kidman 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
Leon Moore beat Bean Davis 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Julian Laird won 6-2, 6-3 over Ryan Hunter at No. 3 singles for Northampton (11-4).
Jack Denhart and Nat Jones took down Benjamin Heath and Jacob Johnson 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Charlie Denhart and Cole Rhodes-Dow defeated Earl Rice Jr. and Shane Wilkinson at No. 2 doubles.
The win sets up a showdown with either No. 1 Longmeadow or No. 8 Central for the No. 4 Blue Devils in the semifinals.
Longmeadow and Central play at 3 p.m. Saturday,
Lee 3, Frontier Regional 2 — The second-seeded Red Hawks’ unbeaten run ended in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs.
They started the season 14-0 before the Wildcats swept doubles sweep and took one singles match to win.
Celia Speth won 6-3, 7-6 (2) over Ava Martin at No. 1 singles for Frontier (14-1), and Ashley Barrington beat Sandra Ortega 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Anna Zera and Tori Speth lost for the first time all season at No. 2 doubles 6-5, 5-7, 6-2 to Kate Delsignor and Anna Wang.
Angelique Nejaime and Maddie Desantis clinched the win for Lee with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Erike Poissant and Tori Bowen at No. 1 doubles.
“I wouldn’t say anything went haywire other than a couple breaks of service that went the wrong way,” Frontier coach Steve Barrett said. “You can’t ever complain about the effort they put out. After a 14-0 season I’m not going to sit here and complain and criticize.”
It was the final match for Frontier seniors Barrington, Poissant, Allison Zera and Lily Schuman.
South Hadley 5, Agawam 0 — By virtue of No. 1 Frontier Regional’s loss, the No. 3 Tigers (12-7) will host Lee (14-3) in the semifinals at a time and date to be determined.
The Blaney sisters, Olivia and Alexa, helped the Tigers to an opening-round sweep at No. 2 doubles.
They beat Katelyn Poirier and Ariana Korcz 7-6, 4-6, 10-5.
Katie Meon beat Emma Armfield 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for South Hadley.
Caroline Robitaille and Tosin Omojola finished up the singles sweep 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
Hannah Dahroque and Aislinn ford won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.
