AMHERST — A 14-year-old girl was injured when her horse landed on her at Muddy Brook Farm early Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
At around 1:30 p.m. officials got a call for help and a South County ambulance transported her to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. An out-of-county ambulance was necessary, Amherst officials said, since all available units were managing a major blaze at Alpine Commons at the time.
Officials said the girl was using the property to practice jumps when she fell forward, ahead of the horse, and the animal came down on top of her.
Amherst officials called her injuries serious, but Muddy Brook Farm owner Kathy Roberts, interviewed at the business Saturday, said she had heard from the teen’s parents that no bones were broken in the incident. She said the teen is fine and these types of incidents are par for the course.
“She wasn’t doing anything wrong,” Roberts said. “The horse wasn’t doing anything wrong. I wasn’t doing anything wrong.”
