Jacob Slack, 23, of 3 E Main Street Apt. #3, Williamsburg, was arrested Sunday at 12:07 a.m. on charges of operating under the influence of marijuana and a defective equipment lights violation at 584 Haydenville Road. Police allegedly observed Slack’s vehicle drive by without the rear license plate illuminated and pulled him over. During the stop, police alleged the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Slack was given field sobriety tests and allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle.
A bicycle valued at $150 was reported to police as stolen outside of Stop & Shop Supermarket, 228 King Street, at 8:20 p.m. Saturday while the owner of the bike was inside. There are no suspects at this time.
Alberto Rojas, 43, of 35 Fruit Street Apt. #A23 was arrested Saturday at 4:45 p.m. on a city ordinance violation of open alcohol container on city streets at Pleasant Street near the start of the Nagle Walkway. Police allegedly observed the man sitting on a bench with what they said appeared to be a beer wrapped in a paper bag. They said the man got up and moved to a bench on the Nagle Walkway after recognizing police.
Police responded to Puffer’s Pond for a report of more than two dozen men and women drinking alcohol, yelling obscenities and removing their clothes at 3:56 p.m. Thursday. The beach was quiet when police got there.
A stop sign was stolen from the exit to the Amherst Golf Club, 365 South Pleasant St., at 10:57 a.m. May 29. In addition, vandals carved a phallic symbol into the greens, which maintenance workers were able to remove before golfers began their rounds.
Irving Echevarria, 22, of Holyoke, was arrested at 6:23 a.m. May 29 on West Street on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and failure to stay within marked lanes after the vehicle he was driving struck a fence, mailbox and tree on West Street, police said.
A man sleeping in a tent pitched on the lawn behind St. Brigid’s Church, 132 North Pleasant St., was awakened at 7:42 a.m. May 28, advised to remove his belongings and sent on his way.
John F. Bedford, 33, of New York City, was arrested at 12:50 a.m. May 28 on Quadrangle Road on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Allison B. Green, 22, of Hatfield, was arrested at 2 a.m. Thursday on charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failing to activate her lights. Green was stopped by police on Bridge Street after she was observed running a red light. She also did not have her headlights on at the time, police said. An officer detected the odor of alcohol in the vehicle and noted Green’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot. Though the woman denied drinking, police said she failed field sobriety tests.
A car hit a tree on Reservoir Road in Leeds about 4:55 p.m. Tuesday. The driver, a 69-year-old woman who was not identified by police, was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with serious injuries, but they were not believed to be life-threatening, Sgt. Josef Barszcz said.
