American composers? You likely know the names of Aaron Copland and Robert Shaw, and may be familiar with Morten Lauridsen and Ned Rorem. But there are many others yet to receive their due recognition.
On Saturday, the Illuminati Vocal Arts Ensemble, under the direction of Tony Thornton, undertakes to fill the gap with “American Voices,” a concert of vocal works by new and familiar American composers, including Gerald Custer, Stephen Paulus, Andrea Ramsey, William L. Dawson, James Erb, Eric Whitacre, Greg Brown, Tom Baehr, Caroline Shaw and the Valley’s own Alice Parker, as well as Copland, Shaw, Lauridsen and Rorem.
