EASTHAMPTON — Nighttime craft beer enjoyed on a patio offering a view of Mount Tom could soon be a possibility at Tandem Bagel after a beer and wine license was approved this week.
The Licensing Board voted Monday in favor of the request, and the bagel shop now awaits final approval from the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission. Co-owner Brian Greenwood said there is no firm timeline on that approval.
The bagel and coffee shop at 9 Railroad St. currently closes at 3 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on weekends. The plan would be to open again at 4 p.m. and offer a selection of local beers, including those brewed at one of Easthampton’s three breweries, as well as snacks such as soft pretzels, chips and salsa and cheese platters.
The nighttime service until 9 p.m. would be offered Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays to start, Greenwood said.
“What we’re really hoping for is drawing people who are trying to get together with friends before the evening starts,” he said. “You might meet up with friends on your way home from work, have a pint and a snack.”
That would happen at Tandem’s outdoor beer garden which is steps from the Manhan Rail Trail amid an expansive garden area.
Regardless of whether the state grants the license in time, Tandem has been approved to host a one-night-only “tap takeover” by New City Brewery from 4 to 9 p.m. June 25. “Though we don’t have taps yet,” Greenwood noted.
He said Tandem would like to do similar events that showcase products from local beer and winemakers and bakeries if the license is approved.
