Here we go, summer fair season is here. And that means it is time for my annual roundup of interesting, crazy and hopefully new fair food.

Bacon is big again this year. But it seems to be big every year lately.

How about bacon bottom crust pizza. The bacon is woven and topped with pulled pork, gouda, cilantro and pork rind. Sounds pretty porky. I would have a bite, but not much more.

I came across bacon wrapped corn. That works for me.

But a bacon wrapped donut burger? Breakfast and lunch in one heart-stopping concoction. Too much.

Tater tots seem to be making the rounds. Tatchos. Yep, Tater Tot nachos. Who doesn’t like those little tots and who doesn’t like nachos?

Also Reuben tots — deep fried with thousand Island dressing, kraut, corned beef and Swiss cheese. I just wonder how much of it would end up on the front of my shirt.

Would you shell out a hundred bucks for a fried Twinkie with caviar on it? Intriguing, but I wouldn’t.

I like the idea of lobster fries. Not so much pizza fries.

Last year it was the deep-fried peanut butter pickle. This year, one fair kicked it up a notch and is offering a deep-fried peanut butter pickle hot dog. Say that three times fast.

Another that caught my eye was fried chicken with gravy in a waffle cone. Comfort food to carry.

Those are the standouts. Will those fair folk ever run out of new ideas? I hope not.

Enjoy your summer!

Is this a great country or what?

There is apparently no food that can not be deep fried.

My favorite fried food will always be crispy and plump whole-belly clams, followed closely by crispy buttermilk fried chicken

And I never turn down deep-fried
pickles.

Now that you’ve got me thinking deep fryer, I think I’m going to make some deep-fried shrimp toasts this weekend.

Now that will be a good start to a fair weekend.
