Budding Canopies

Quabbin Reservoir, Belchertown

Photograph and text by Anne E. Ely, South Hadley

I often pull my car off to the side of the road at the Quabbin Reservoir and wait for some birds to hold still long enough for me to photograph them. On a particularly nice day in mid May, I happened to look up through my car’s sun roof and completely forgot about the birds. The colors of the newly opened leaf buds of the trees against the blue sky was a beautiful sight.

I was able to capture the scene by pointing my hand held DSLR camera up through the open sun roof. I had a medium length telephoto lens barely extended.
