NORTHAMPTON — Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren will speak at the World War II Club in Northampton on Sunday, where she’s expected to talk about economic inequality in America, the bar’s manager said.
Warren is scheduled to speak at the bar, at 50 Conz St. at 4 p.m. Warren’s campaign set up the event Tuesday. It is free and open to the public, though on a first-come, first-served basis.
“I do have a feeling we’re going to have to turn people away if they’re not here early enough,” Rex said, adding that the bar’s event space has a seating capacity of about 220 people.
On Thursday, the senior U.S. senator from Massachusetts threw her support behind the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, Hillary Clinton.
Bill Newman, a Northampton attorney and host of a WHMP weekday radio program, said he expects Warren’s message about economic inequality to be on point — and a message that should be considered “vitally important” to liberals and conservatives alike.
“I think her voice as a spokesperson for progressive values and fairness in the economy and (for) making legislative changes that can impact, allow and encourage the wealth of America is exactly right,” Newman said.
Newman also said he expects the event to be standing room only, with lines of people out the door and hopes he can attend himself.
“I also think it’s a message that resonates across the political spectrum,” he said.
