NORTHAMPTON — A Flag Day ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Northampton Elks Lodge No. 997 at 17 Spring St. in Florence.
Members of the Elks Lodge, the Veterans Council of Northampton and Boy Scouts of America Troop 109 are expected to attend, and Mayor David Narkewicz is scheduled to speak.
Elk Gerry Clark will serve as master of ceremonies, according to a statement from the Northampton Lodge.
Members of Troop 109 will present eight different American flags, according to the Lodge. The program will close with a flag retirement ceremony and lunch.
“This ceremony will be symbolic of the unity and combined strength of Northampton’s veterans,” Clark, co-chairman of the Elks Veterans Committee, said in a statement. “This weekend and every day, we ask the public to display the American flag proudly, and then come out Sunday to participate in a proud ceremony to honor the flag and properly retire ones that should no longer be in service.”
This is the sixth year that the Elks are hosting the ceremony, which is co-sponsored by the Veterans Council of Northampton.
