NORTHAMPTON — A judge Wednesday denied the request for reduced bail made by a former South Hadley man accused of molesting a 5-year-old girl in 2001.

Guy Bush, 47, of Grand Island, New York, has pleaded not guilty in Hampshire Superior Court to a charge of child rape and three counts of indecent assault. Bush was known to the girl, though they were not relatives.

Bush remains held at Hampshire County Jail on $100,000 personal surety or $25,000 cash bail.

Last month, after an unusual sequence of events in Bush’s first trial — including the announcement of a guilty verdict that was then questioned by one juror — Judge Daniel Ford declared a mistrial in the case.

Bush’s attorney Jon Heyman, of Northampton, and Assistant Northwestern District Attorney Caleb Weiner, along with Judge John Ferrara, agreed in court Wednesday that Bush would be tried a second time  in October. The exact date has not yet been set.
