NORTHAMPTON — A downed tree blocked traffic on Damon Road and cut power to the area Wednesday morning, according to police.

The tree fell at 6:54 a.m. in the vicinity of 244 Damon Road, according to Northampton Officer David Netto. Police said the tree was cleared up shortly after 8 a.m.

No car hit the tree and there was no wind at the time, so Netto speculated the tree could have been rotted, though he wasn’t sure.

“There were no injuries but it took the power lines down with it,” he said.

Netto said just before 8 a.m. that the complexity of getting the power back on could delay reopening the road and that National Grid was on scene. As of 8 a.m., no outages were reported on National Grid’s outage map.

Netto said cars were being directed through a different route but expected that traffic was backed up.

“I’m hoping it’s not going to take much longer,” he said.

The road was reopened minutes later.
