Amherst

Charles Turner graduated with honors from Greenfield Community College on June 4. He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and earned a liberal arts degree in English. Turner will continue on to the University of Massachusetts in the fall. 

Johann Sebastian Becker was named to the spring semester dean’s list at The University of Rhode Island, Kingston, Rhode Island.

Aaron Miller has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at The College of New Jersey, Ewing, New Jersey.

Florence

Willis Rayton received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York. 

Lauren McGrath has been named to the spring semester president’s list at Siena College in Albany, New York.

Granby

U.S. Air Force Airman Liam C. Galloway graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Galloway is a 2014 graduate of Granby Junior-Senior High School.

Hadley

Patrick Bemben, a member of the class of 2018 majoring in mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, recently completed an intense, hands-on research project, titled “Urban Planning: Springfield’s North and South Ends.”

Monica R. Waskiewicz, daughter of Robert and Donna Waskiewicz, graduated May 7 from Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire, with a degree in health science. She was also named to the spring semester dean’s list. She will be studying nursing at The University of Massachusetts Amherst

Lacey A. Waskiewicz, daughter of Robert and Donna Waskiewicz, was named to the dean’s list at Framingham State University in Framingham.

Hatfield

Natalie M. Wickles, daughter of Gregory and Melanie Wickles, received her doctorate degree in medicine from Temple University School of Medicine. She is a graduate of Smith Academy and Smith College. Dr. Wickles will be completing her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.  

Haydenville

Shelby McQueston, a member of the class of 2017 majoring in biology and biotechnology at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, recently completed an intense, hands-on research project in London. The project was titled “Improving Community Resilience for Hounslow.”

James W. Longe, a priest of the Diocese of Springfield and Chaplain at Westover Air Reserve Base, has recently been selected for active duty. He departs on July 1 for a large base within the western part of our country. Until departure, Father Longe will continue to reside at Our Lady of the Hills Parish, Haydenville. 

Northampton

Alec Schwab  is now a graduate of Colgate University, Hamilton, New York. Schwab majored in classical studies and graduated cum laude.

Northampton High School Junior Book Awards are given each year to the outstanding students in the junior class by alumni clubs or by the admissions offices of the participating colleges. They honor students’ academic achievement, and in some cases there is a possibility of scholarship money if the student chooses to attend the school that has given the book.

Alix Zeligman received a bachelor’s degree in religion from Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa on May 8.

West Hatfield

Vanessa Pogue has earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Bowdoin College
