AMHERST – The police response to a call Thursday from Amherst Regional High School ended not with the application of handcuffs – but with the removal of them.
An Amherst police officer arrived at about 8:25 a.m. to the school, where a student in an art class had one half of a pair of handcuffs stuck on his wrist. The student was using the handcuffs as part of the class and a friend of the student had tightened them too much, police said.
There was no key on the scene.
A custodian managed to remove one side of the cuffs before police arrived, but the officer had to assist in the removal of the other cuff.
The officer advised the student’s mother to have his wrist checked due to the tightness of the cuffs.
