The University of Massachusetts (where I teach) has a gun club that, unlike more common athletic gun clubs, teaches students the “safe” use of military-style semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15.
According to the Massachusetts Daily Collegian (Oct. 16, 2013), the AR-15 is one of the most popular weapons in the club.
The campus club also helps members with obtaining a license to buy and carry those guns.
As an educational institution, remote as this may seem, we could be contributing to making mass shootings a bit easier in our community.
All it would take is for a single kid to snap.
