WESTHAMPTON – Town Meeting voters on Monday approved a 2.5 percent salary increase for municipal employees and approved spending for a new Fire Department tanker truck.
The votes were part of the reconvening of annual Town Meeting, which last met May 14, and a subsequent special Town Meeting.
In May, voters put off setting salaries and compensation for employees and elected officials until Town Meeting met again.
The Finance Committee had suggested that the salaries over $1,000 be increased 1.5 percent.
After the May meeting, the Select Board voted to propose a 2.5 percent increase in those salaries, according to Cheryl Provost, the town’s administrative assistant.
The difference between those two proposed increases is $2,823.
With the Tuesday approval of the 2.5 percent salary increases, the town is still $16,140 under the property tax levy limit.
Voters also approved Article 6, which comprised of the remainder of the fiscal 2017 budget. Voters in May approved the majority of the budget.
A special Town Meeting held Tuesday approved spending for the town’s share of a tanker truck for the Fire Department.
The money will come from $71,199 in excess bond proceeds from the Westhampton Elementary School roof note, $2,142 from excess proceeds from the Highway Department Garage bond note and $11,404 from free cash.
The town last year was also awarded a $238,000 federal grant to pay for the truck. Provost said the town expects to take delivery of the truck in the fall.
Voters also approved the transfer of $25,000 from free cash to the stabilization fund.
