NORTHAMPTON – A rotten tree shut down Gothic Street for about 90 minutes Wednesday after it fell across the road, blocking traffic. No one was injured.

The large tree, planted on the Hampshire County Courthouse lawn, fell about 4:30 p.m. One of the tree’s branches hit a car, causing minor damage, according to Northampton Police Sgt. Greg Korepta.

A crew from the Department of Public Works cleaned up the tree by about 6 p.m. The middle of the tree’s trunk was rotten, Korepta said.
