Grieving is an individual practice. It is messy and rife with an array of emotion for each of us. Many of us in LGBT communities are in shock after Orlando.
I remember walking each other to our cars in 1980 Cincinnati when leaving the lesbian bar or the larger gay nightclub. We were aware of possible physical altercations with rednecks out on the town, but we had no concern for guns.
This month, politicians were tested to offer consolation and support. Our president struck the right tone. Hillary Clinton offered a message of solidarity.
Bernie Sanders, on the other hand, chose to talk about himself as someone who will not concede defeat. Immediately, after Orlando, he was not talking about gun control. He is not talking about unity. The burden continues to be placed on Clinton.
Sanders resembles Trump in the self-importance department. His left, progressive politics are hollow to me since he is not a gracious or kind man. Sanders is whiny. He became a Democrat for 10 minutes only to complain about the “rigged system.” He encourages cultic support and he refuses to acknowledge Clinton’s earned success.
The separation of pledged delegates is four times larger than when Clinton conceded to Obama in 2008.
It is outrageous that Clinton is expected to offer Sanders anything at all. He and many of his followers are petty. Some of them chose to chastise Sen. Elizabeth Warren when she came to Northampton and offered love and solidarity.
Grow up. These are serious times. Shame on Sen. Sanders. He is persona non grata.
