SOUTH HADLEY — A 26-year-old South Hadley man was killed Wednesday night after he lost control of the ATV he was driving and struck several trees on a dirt and gravel trail off Lithia Springs Road, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

Authorities responded around 10:20 p.m. The man was taken to Holyoke Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, the district attorney’s office reported.

His passenger, a 30-year-old Chicopee woman, was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield “with serious injuries,” according to the district attorney’s office.

Authorities have not yet released the names of either person involved in the accident. Mary Carey, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said Thursday that the identity of the man would be released Friday.

Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police and South Hadley Police continue to investigate the accident.
