HATFIELD – An East Hartford tractor trailer driver was arrested and charged with operating under the influence on I-91 in Hatfield on Monday morning after callers reported that his truck was veering out if its lane.
Emmanuel Adom, 53, was followed and stopped by State Police at 11 a.m. near the 30.2-mile marker. Police initially stopped him for a lane violation, noting that he was swerving side to side so severely that he almost hit the highway guardrail and cars in the next lane, according to State Police. Adom was found to be visibly intoxicated, and had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, police said. Police arrested him and had his truck towed from the highway and put out of service.
Adom was charged with OUI second offense, possession of an open container and a lane violation. He was arraigned in Northampton District Court on Tuesday and was released.
A clerk at the court said that he has a pretrial hearing set for August 2.
